Salt Marsh Opera Student Intern Program
The Student Intern Program, as outlined below, is designed to give talented high school students an opportunity to experience a professional opera production in an in-depth way by working with and being mentored by gifted professional musicians and production staff.- Internships are offered to area high school students who will be seniors in the school-year 2010-2011.
- Students nominated should be active in their school music or drama program, be dependable, talented and accomplished, and should possess a positive attitude and good work ethic.
- Interns will participate as seniors in the 2010 production of L'elisir d'amore , and assist in areas such as set-building, stage crew, lighting, make-up and costumes.
- Interns will commit to a period of rehearsals, stage/costume work and performances. The commitment period is split into two parts: 1) George Kent Performance Hall, Westerly, RI: September 28 evening rehearsal for L'elisir d'amore continuing through the performances October 1 and 3, followed by striking the set. 2) Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, Old Saybrook, CT: October 25 stage set-up, October 27 dress rehearsal, performances October 29 and 31, and striking the set after the final performance on October 31. - School performance dates are still to be announced. The dress rehearsal will take place during the day on Wednesday, September 29, 2010. The dress rehearsal is mandatory, but due to interns' school obligations, attendance at the other school performances will be decided between the intern and the Artistic Director.
- Each intern will receive a $500 intern scholarship award to further his or her music education. Salt Marsh Opera will pay the award through the intern's school music fund.
