Mission
Founded in 2000, the Salt Marsh Opera Company is dedicated to producing high-quality, professional opera in Connecticut and Rhode Island and to making its productions available to the entire community. Committed to raising the awareness of opera through educational initiatives and live productions in intimate settings, Salt Marsh Opera enriches the cultural lives of our shoreline communities with: - Fully staged productions
- An educational outreach program featuring open dress rehearsals, productions in local schools and a student intern program
- Concerts in private and public venues
- Mini-concerts in collaboration with local arts groups
Organization
Salt Marsh Opera's organization is comprised of:
- A. Board of Trustees
- The Connecticut River Advisory Board
- Production and office staff
- A dedicated group of over 100 community volunteers
- The Salt Marsh Opera Guild
Salt Marsh Opera is a member of Opera America and the Old Saybrook and Greater Westerly/Pawcatuck Chambers of Commerce.
Community
Salt Marsh Opera's vibrant ensemble of performers, professionals and volunteers cultivates strong community relationships with opera devotees of all ages. The education program takes staged performances with orchestra, costumes and supertitles to area schools. The intern program gives high school students an opportunity to participate in a professional production. The volunteer program is an integral part of Salt Marsh Opera's commitment to the community. The Salt Marsh Opera Guild presents lectures and other special events designed to build interest in and further knowledge of opera.
